December Favorites

And just like that 2014 is over! Happy New Years Eve!!! Here are some of my favorite things this month. This is a short one because my brain is still fried from the holidays. Be sure to check out all of my favorites from this past year here

Into The Woods
As a theater nerd I was so excited when I heard that into the woods was going to be made into a movie. I was also very interested to see how Disney was going to be able to pull off the show considering some of the things that happen aren't exactly family friendly. BUT I was so beyond happy after seeing it this weekend (and again today). It was so good. All of the actors were awesome and there were so many people who I didn't even realize could sing that blew me away. I would recommend it to anyone just keep in mind that it is a musical so there is a ton of singing (apparently people didn't realize that?). Also Chris Pine and Billy Magnussen singing "Agony" should be reason enough to run to your theater ASAP.

      BLANKET SCARVES
I am OBSESSED with blanket scarves. I got two for Christmas and I'm planning on doing a whole post about them sometime next week but if there is one piece of advice I can give you it is to take advantage of semi-annual sales right now and go get your own! (Then go on Pinterest to figure out how to wear it)

Grace's Guide: The Art of Pretending To Be A Grown Up
Grace Helbig is my favorite YouTuber and basically one of my all-time favorite people. She's hysterical and smart, with an amazing wardrobe that I want to steal. Her book Grace's Guide has been out for a few months now but I finally have my own copy (thanks Santa!) and it is everything I wanted it to be. Let me be the first to tell you that this is no normal self-help book and every college student or 20-something should read it. Not only is it hilarious but it also has some pretty great advice! Also check out itsGrace on YouTube or Camp Takota on Netflix! One day I will actually make a whole post about Grace but for now I’ll leave you with this.

This sweater from Francesca's
I got this sweater for Christmas and I might just be my new favorite top that I own. It is so unbelievably comfortable and perfect for days when you're too lazy to put in an effort to dress up. It looks great with leggings and boots or with jeans and flats!

Have an amazing New Years Eve whether you're staying in with some Chinese food or going out with friends.
Be sure to check back here later this week for a look back at some of Lea and I's favorite posts, trends, and moments from 2014!

(Finally) Home For The Holidays

After weeks of stress, bad end-of-semester dining hall food, and many episodes of gossip girl with lea to avoid our responsibilities, I'm finally home for winter break! I came home last week but I still had work to do and a final to go back to school for on Friday but I am officially done with my first semester of sophomore year!

So since I finally have time to post something, here is a little update :)

Although I am excited about my lack of homework and being able to delete my Art History notes off of my computer forever, I'm so much more excited about Christmas!!! My favorite holiday is this week and I have so much to do but I would much rather be stressed about choosing wrapping paper than studying for an exam.

Before we all went our separate ways for break, the girls of 313 had a pretty successful mini Christmas, complete with dinner at Bertucci's, gift exchange and Elf!

Also look at my cute Christmas nails!
(paining your nails is a perfect way to avoid study)

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, Lea and I have had a crazy couple of weeks but now that the semester is over you should expect to see more from both of us!

For now I want to wish you a Merry Christmas!
I will see you after the holiday with some #ootds and my December favorites!

December as a College Student

Happy December First Everyone!
(or Christmas First as it's known in my book)

The most wonderful time or year is almost upon us, but for us college students, one of the worst parts of the year is also among us; FINALS. Whether it's a sit down, take home, or powerpoint presentation, they are all terrible and none of us want to do them, but they are inevitable. Here's some of my tips to get through this time of year.

Music
Find an artist you can have on as background noise. The key is to find one that doesn't take your focus away from the work in front of you. For Kasey and I, this artist is Mister Frank Sinatra.
Rewards
Always remember you are human, and after you finally submit that powerpoint on blackboard or moodle, you deserve a treat. Candy is always fabulous.
Exercise
Still go to the gym! I know you may be busy and this is easy to rule out, but it is so good for your mental health. Bring your books to the gym, that's what I did today.
Old Assignments
You know all of those old busy work assignments you did the rest of the semester? Take those out and use those as notes! Most questions will come directly from these. They are your God.
Desk Space
At this point in the semester, your desk probably has all of your things from forever stuck on it. Clear it off. Your bed is too comfy to be burdened with homework. Bring a blanket to your chair. It'll comfort you and your tears.
Microwave Meals
Sometimes the trek to the dining hall is enough to through your studying off for the rest of the night. Stay in the room. Hot pockets are hella.
To-Do Lists/Planners
USE THESE THINGS. They are your saving grace when it comes to prioritizing what is due when or what day you have a final on. And crossing things off of this lists feels oh so good.
...and lastly
COFFEE.
lots of it. piles and piles of it. like six cups of day.

Happy Studies,
Much Love,
Lea
P.S. Like our Christmas makeover? Thank Kasey!

November Favorites

This month has been a pretty weird one for us on the blog (since we haven't really posted anything) and to keep that going I'm going to be doing my favorites for the month a little differently. November has been a huge music month for me. I went to two concerts and tons of my favorite artists released new albums or singles or music videos and I honestly couldn't think of any non-music related favorites from this month so I figured I would share all this new music with you guys!

This Century - Talk to Talk
This Century has been one of my favorite bands since they opened for The Maine In 2010. Since then I have gotten to meet and get to know all of the guys and I can honestly tell you that they are the nicest people I have ever met. This single is a huge deal because Joel Kanitz (the lead singer and my crush always and forever) had surgery on his vocal chords this summer and spent months after that not being able to even speak. Since then he has made a full recovery and I think he sounds better than ever. This song is amazing and I am so excited for their new album!

Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk
Okay this song has been blasting in our room for more than a week now. Lea and I cannot go a day without listening to it at least 5 times. We have watched the video so many times that I was actually doing the dance this morning while brushing my teeth. It’s been quite a while since Bruno has released new music so not only is this awesome because of that but it is an absolute jam.

One Direction - FOUR
I was 1d af this month and I have no shame. I love One Direction and this album is amazing. Honestly even if I wasn't as big of a fan as I am I would still like this album. It's a new sound but it works for them because let's face it - the "What Makes You Beautiful" days are long gone and I LOVE IT.

Beyonce - 7/11 video
This is another video that Lea and I have been obsessed with recently. It's just a really fun song and video and the part at the end with the Christmas tree is basically what we were doing the other night while we decorated our room.

Anberlin's final tour
So everyone had an "emo phase" in middle or high school (don't lie we know you had one) and it is a very strong possibility that during that phase you listened to a little band from central Florida called Anberlin. They have been around since 2002 but I only found out about them when they opened for the All American Rejects in 2009. Since then they have become one of my favorite bands of all time. Just last week they ended their 12 year career as a band when they played their final show in Orlando. I got to see them play their last show in Boston at the beginning of the month and when I say it was emotional I really mean it. I can’t even explain what it feels like to go to a show knowing it is the last time you will see that band. Usually when bands break up they do it right away - there is no farewell tour or final album but Anberlin chose to go out this way because they would rather people say "damn they're breaking up???" than "wait their still around?" and I personally think that is pretty freaking smart. There were many many tears shed at their show in Boston but it was also such a cool experience because it felt like a celebration of their career and it was something that I will never forget. I made a playlist of my favorite Anberlin songs and I highly recommend you check them out.

Fall Out Boy - American Beauty/American Psyco
I came back from class on Monday to lea basically losing her mind which usually means that a band did something and I was right. Fall Out Boy released a new single and it is awesome. Lea said it is the perfect mix of their PAX AM Days sound and Save Rock And Roll and I couldn’t agree more. If you haven't yet you need to listen to this song.

Walk The Moon - Talking Is Hard
Walk The Moon has been one of those bands that I never have to be in the mood to listen too. I have even put them on most of my playlists for the blog. They released their new album Talking is Hard this month and I am obsessed with it. I don't currently have a favorite because it came out a few days ago and I honestly haven't had a chance to really listen to it closely but I can promise you that it's great and you should go listen to it immediately.

Ariana Grande's AMA performance
You couldn't have possibly thought that I could make it through this without talking about Ariana right? Well her performance at this year's American Music Awards was too perfect for me to not talk about. First of all she looked stunning. Her hair, make up and dress were so on point that I freaked out before she even started singing (Lea can back me up on this). Her performance started with stripped down versions of Problem and Break Free that sounded so freaking cool right before she went on to sing Love Me Harder with The Weekend. It was so so good and I can’t wait until I can see her in March!

What were some of your favorites for this month? Any new music I should check out? Let me know in the comments! Hope you had a great thanksgiving!!

Autumn 2014 Trends

It's about halfway through autumn and winter is quickly approaching.  Here in New England, we've already seen a few snowflakes.  And since it is New England, we've also had a few days approach the seventy degree mark.  Nonetheless, this time of year has always been a favorite of mine for fashion,  It's a season of hot chocolate, apple picking, and the school semester is in full swing.  The fashion that goes along with it is warm and comfy and still hella cute.  Anywho, if you've read my Summer post, this will mirror it. Here's my favorite trends for this Fall.

Leather Leggings

I know I'm a sucker for leather (seeing as I am the resident punk), but I cannot get enough of the leather legging trend.  It's the simplest way to make a basic top or sweater look edgy and chic. I also love a girl who can rock the double leather and pair these bad boys with a leather jacket. So goddamn badass and I'm obsessed.

Also try with a fur vest!

The "Matchy-Matchy"

In all honesty, not everyone can pull this off, but when it's done right, it is done so fucking right. I find this look so lady-like and just plain old fashionable. A lady wearing this trend looks like someone I want to ask fashion advice to.

(also shoutout to my cute friend pictured to the right. She's also hella punk)

Capes

So obviously in the fall, it starts to get colder and we need to consider bundling up, especially here in New England. I'm absolutely obsessed with the sudden revival of the cape and cannot wait to purchase one for myself. Perfect alternative to a heavy winter coat, which if you're like me, are absolutely sick.

Also obsessed with this gloves, but we'll talk about gloves for winter trends!

Faux Fur Vests

Okay, so Kasey and I are both equally in love with this trend.  Our only "problem" with it is that in our gut, we feel this trend will be out by next year. Big bummer honestly.  They dress up a simple outfit so nicely and it's almost mindless to put one on. I hope I'm wrong and this trend lasts!

Again, pair with those leather leggings!

Patterned Black Skinny's

One of my managers wears these all of them time and I need to find a pair for myself.  Patterned black skinny jeans add some flare to a professional outfit, or just some fun on a possible night out.  I'm on the lookout for ones with black polka dots on them myself. The texture on the pants is just subtle enough to not be obnoxious.

Seriously, if you find a pair, tell me the store! I need them!

60's Revival

Obviously, I couldn't picture the whole trend, so I picked my personal favorite, the shift dress.  With a good pair of tights, colored or just good old black, this is the perfect fall look. Also I'm obsessed with the revival of bold patterns. Nothing makes a statement like a good pattern.

Happy Dressing,
Much Love,
Lea
P.S. Winter is almost among us! Bundle up!
