November Favorites

This month has been a pretty weird one for us on the blog (since we haven't really posted anything) and to keep that going I'm going to be doing my favorites for the month a little differently. November has been a huge music month for me. I went to two concerts and tons of my favorite artists released new albums or singles or music videos and I honestly couldn't think of any non-music related favorites from this month so I figured I would share all this new music with you guys!

This Century - Talk to Talk
This Century has been one of my favorite bands since they opened for The Maine In 2010. Since then I have gotten to meet and get to know all of the guys and I can honestly tell you that they are the nicest people I have ever met. This single is a huge deal because Joel Kanitz (the lead singer and my crush always and forever) had surgery on his vocal chords this summer and spent months after that not being able to even speak. Since then he has made a full recovery and I think he sounds better than ever. This song is amazing and I am so excited for their new album!

Bruno Mars & Mark Ronson - Uptown Funk
Okay this song has been blasting in our room for more than a week now. Lea and I cannot go a day without listening to it at least 5 times. We have watched the video so many times that I was actually doing the dance this morning while brushing my teeth. It’s been quite a while since Bruno has released new music so not only is this awesome because of that but it is an absolute jam.

One Direction - FOUR
I was 1d af this month and I have no shame. I love One Direction and this album is amazing. Honestly even if I wasn't as big of a fan as I am I would still like this album. It's a new sound but it works for them because let's face it - the "What Makes You Beautiful" days are long gone and I LOVE IT.

Beyonce - 7/11 video
This is another video that Lea and I have been obsessed with recently. It's just a really fun song and video and the part at the end with the Christmas tree is basically what we were doing the other night while we decorated our room.

Anberlin's final tour
So everyone had an "emo phase" in middle or high school (don't lie we know you had one) and it is a very strong possibility that during that phase you listened to a little band from central Florida called Anberlin. They have been around since 2002 but I only found out about them when they opened for the All American Rejects in 2009. Since then they have become one of my favorite bands of all time. Just last week they ended their 12 year career as a band when they played their final show in Orlando. I got to see them play their last show in Boston at the beginning of the month and when I say it was emotional I really mean it. I can’t even explain what it feels like to go to a show knowing it is the last time you will see that band. Usually when bands break up they do it right away - there is no farewell tour or final album but Anberlin chose to go out this way because they would rather people say "damn they're breaking up???" than "wait their still around?" and I personally think that is pretty freaking smart. There were many many tears shed at their show in Boston but it was also such a cool experience because it felt like a celebration of their career and it was something that I will never forget. I made a playlist of my favorite Anberlin songs and I highly recommend you check them out.

Fall Out Boy - American Beauty/American Psyco
I came back from class on Monday to lea basically losing her mind which usually means that a band did something and I was right. Fall Out Boy released a new single and it is awesome. Lea said it is the perfect mix of their PAX AM Days sound and Save Rock And Roll and I couldn’t agree more. If you haven't yet you need to listen to this song.

Walk The Moon - Talking Is Hard
Walk The Moon has been one of those bands that I never have to be in the mood to listen too. I have even put them on most of my playlists for the blog. They released their new album Talking is Hard this month and I am obsessed with it. I don't currently have a favorite because it came out a few days ago and I honestly haven't had a chance to really listen to it closely but I can promise you that it's great and you should go listen to it immediately.

Ariana Grande's AMA performance
You couldn't have possibly thought that I could make it through this without talking about Ariana right? Well her performance at this year's American Music Awards was too perfect for me to not talk about. First of all she looked stunning. Her hair, make up and dress were so on point that I freaked out before she even started singing (Lea can back me up on this). Her performance started with stripped down versions of Problem and Break Free that sounded so freaking cool right before she went on to sing Love Me Harder with The Weekend. It was so so good and I can’t wait until I can see her in March!

What were some of your favorites for this month? Any new music I should check out? Let me know in the comments! Hope you had a great thanksgiving!!

Autumn 2014 Trends

It's about halfway through autumn and winter is quickly approaching.  Here in New England, we've already seen a few snowflakes.  And since it is New England, we've also had a few days approach the seventy degree mark.  Nonetheless, this time of year has always been a favorite of mine for fashion,  It's a season of hot chocolate, apple picking, and the school semester is in full swing.  The fashion that goes along with it is warm and comfy and still hella cute.  Anywho, if you've read my Summer post, this will mirror it. Here's my favorite trends for this Fall.

Leather Leggings

I know I'm a sucker for leather (seeing as I am the resident punk), but I cannot get enough of the leather legging trend.  It's the simplest way to make a basic top or sweater look edgy and chic. I also love a girl who can rock the double leather and pair these bad boys with a leather jacket. So goddamn badass and I'm obsessed.

Also try with a fur vest!

The "Matchy-Matchy"

In all honesty, not everyone can pull this off, but when it's done right, it is done so fucking right. I find this look so lady-like and just plain old fashionable. A lady wearing this trend looks like someone I want to ask fashion advice to.

(also shoutout to my cute friend pictured to the right. She's also hella punk)

Capes

So obviously in the fall, it starts to get colder and we need to consider bundling up, especially here in New England. I'm absolutely obsessed with the sudden revival of the cape and cannot wait to purchase one for myself. Perfect alternative to a heavy winter coat, which if you're like me, are absolutely sick.

Also obsessed with this gloves, but we'll talk about gloves for winter trends!

Faux Fur Vests

Okay, so Kasey and I are both equally in love with this trend.  Our only "problem" with it is that in our gut, we feel this trend will be out by next year. Big bummer honestly.  They dress up a simple outfit so nicely and it's almost mindless to put one on. I hope I'm wrong and this trend lasts!

Again, pair with those leather leggings!

Patterned Black Skinny's

One of my managers wears these all of them time and I need to find a pair for myself.  Patterned black skinny jeans add some flare to a professional outfit, or just some fun on a possible night out.  I'm on the lookout for ones with black polka dots on them myself. The texture on the pants is just subtle enough to not be obnoxious.

Seriously, if you find a pair, tell me the store! I need them!

60's Revival

Obviously, I couldn't picture the whole trend, so I picked my personal favorite, the shift dress.  With a good pair of tights, colored or just good old black, this is the perfect fall look. Also I'm obsessed with the revival of bold patterns. Nothing makes a statement like a good pattern.

Happy Dressing,
Much Love,
Lea
P.S. Winter is almost among us! Bundle up!

Where Have We Been?

Well I guess I wasn't lying when I said not to expect much from us this month! We have been so crazy busy with the semester coming to an end and our project due dates and other random things all happening at once.
((Lea has also had some major computer problems recently so that would explain why she has been MIA for a while now, she is working on a new post though and that should be pretty great.))

So what has been going on with us?? Lots and lots of homework and coffee and sleep.
November is a super busy time of the year for us especially when all of our professors like to assign group projects instead of staying to give a final exam!
It is safe to say we are all counting down the days until Thanksgiving break, I mean look at these freaking adorable hand turkeys we made with our suitemates :)
Once Thanksgiving is over though we still have a week of presentations to get through so that should be interesting.
So there's a little update to show that we haven't forgotten about you guys! We'll be back soon with normal posts I promise but in the meantime this is what we will probably look like until the semester ends.

P.S We also have been in the Christmas spirit since before Halloween so be prepared for lots and lots of holiday cheer coming your way!

Queen of Mean - Halloween '14

When looking for (and stressing out about) a Halloween costume for weeks I found one for $5! (Thank god for Claire's and their cheap Disney Villains accessories.) It was a super simple costume to throw together and honestly any costume that allows you to wear leggings is a good one in my book.
Hope you all had a great halloweekend!
I'm officially in Christmas mode but I can't wait for Thanksgiving since this month is going to be crazy for me with all of my final presentations happening at the same time! It's going to be nuts so as much as I want to keep up with posts, you probably shouldn't expect too much from me until everything winds down.

October Favorites

October is over which is great for me because it means that I can listen to Christmas music. Yes I know Thanksgiving hasn't passed yet but in my mind Christmas starts the day after Halloween. Don't judge.
Anyway, October had so many things that could have made this list but I don't want to get in the habit of making huge favorites lists like I did last month. So after much consideration, here are my top 5 favorites from this month!

Andrew McMahon in The Wilderness
Andrew McMahon has always been one of my favorite musicians and I'm sure you may not know him by name but I bet you have heard some of his music on tv shows or Myspace pages. He was the front man for Something Corporate (Punk Rock Princess, I Woke Up in a Car) and he also had a very successful solo project Jack's Mannequin (Dark Blue, The Mixed Tape, Bruised). If you lived through the early 2000's and never heard any of those songs, I am so sorry for you. Fast forward to now, a year after the end off Jack's Mannequin and Andrew has yet another solo project and it is beautiful. Andrew McMahon in The Wilderness came out on October 14th on iTunes and Spotify and I can't stop listening to it. (this isn't surprising, considering I still blast Everything In Transit in my car as if it didn't come out almost 10 years ago). If you haven't checked it out you definitely should. My favorites on the album are Canyon Moon, Cecilia And The Satellite and High Dive.

Bean Boots
One of my favorite fall fashion pieces are boots. I have at least 5 different pairs of boots and I don't really wear anything other than them from October-March. My favorite boots at the moment are my bean boots. I have been obsessed with bean boots since last year and I finally have a pair of my own after a return issue last Christmas.  I love these boots because they are super cute and super functional. they are great for chilly fall days, rainy days and even snowy ones. I love to pair them with a pair of knit socks and a vest and sweater.

Emma Roberts' Guest Collection for Baublebar
I love accessories and a good statement piece so it's no surprise that I instantly wanted to buy everything from Emma Roberts' collection this month. I had never heard of Baublebar until Emma tweeted a link to her collection at the beginning of the month but I kind of just assumed that everything was going to be super pricey (because that's usually how celebrity collections work) but I was pleasantly surprised. Sure she has a few pieces that are more expensive than my budget allows for, but most of it is priced similarly to Francesca's jewelry. Some of my favorites are this Rainbow Frank Collar necklace ($68) and the PinkBungaloo Drop earrings ($38)

The Skimm
Nothing is worse than not knowing what is going on in the world. No one wants to be that person who doesn't know what Isis is or why people are mad at Obama this time or even what is happening in pop culture. When I'm home I watch the news a lot, but it is so hard to actually sit down and watch it at school. Thank GOD for this website called The Skimm. They email you every morning Monday-Friday with a skimmed version of the biggest news stories. Every morning I read it before I even get out of bed. They are such short blurbs of really important topics and they're put into words that I can understand first thing in the morning. It's a free service and I highly recommend you sign up!

Gone Girl
THIS MOVIE. Oh man I don't even know how to talk about this movie without totally spoiling it but it was amazing and everyone needs to see it. I didn't read the book and for once, I'm glad I saw the movie first because I really had no idea what was going to happen and every twist and turn (and there were plenty of them) took me by surprise. I can't recommend this movie enough. If you didn't get a chance to see it in theaters or it's no longer playing near you put it on your netflix queue ASAP

Honorable Mentions
Like I said, I had a ton of favorites this month so here are two that didn't make the list and are garunteed to put a smile on your face.

Ew! - Jimmy Fallon ft. Will I Am

Convincing My Grandma 'Frozen' Happened In Real Life
This kid video tapes conversations with his grandmother where he tells her all about celebrities. The thing is, she has no idea the people he's talking about are famous, she just thinks he goes to school with them. So of course Jimmy Kimmel got in touch with him and issued him the challenge of convincing her that the entire plot of Frozen actually happened. The result is hilarious.

Thats all for this month! Hope you had a great Halloween :)
